Africa in Motion Digital Hub Event

Africa in Motion Digital Hub

Description

The so-called digital revolution has had a major impact on the African creative industries, not only in terms of production, but also on the exhibition and dissemination of art and other creative products. We know this, for example, from the hugely popular Nollywood film industry as well as other similar low-budget digital film industries across the continent. We see it in many forms of audio-visual, graphic and literary African art forms and creative output. This year we have created an Africa in Motion Digital Hub at Civic House in Glasgow, to celebrate and explore the power of the digital in the creative industries in Africa.

The hub will run for the final weekend of the festival, and will consist of an African video games exhibition, titled Game On, Africa!, a VR lounge screening Virtual Reality Short Films, evening screenings of films with themes and narratives linked to digital media, and discussions on these topics. Please see daily listings for further information on the different activities and events presented in the hub.

We also have a couple of events happening to launch the hub on Friday 1st November:

6pm: the Africa in Motion Digital Hub will officially launch with a wine reception, followed by screenings of short films exploring the obsession with digital media, at 8pm.
