The Water Will Carry Us Home

Synopsis

In a stunning mix of live action, living ritual, and stop-motion animation, African slaves are thrown off a slave ship and into the wild sea. Met by the Water Spirit Omambala, they are offered salvation and new life in the calm depths of the water. Fantastic visual art styles meet real-life photographs and clippings in an impressive blend of form and score, while remembering folklore transformations of the hardships of slavery into magical routes to freedom.

This film is screening as part of the Short Film Competition
